
United Soccer Leagues released the final North American Finals All-Tournament Teams for the 2009 season, highlighting the U16 and U17 Boys Division of the Super Y-League. Northern Virginia again earned recognition on both lists as U16 Royal Brian Henken and U17 Royal Ahroon Nusraty were each named to their respective squads.
Royal defender Henken was nominated by the opposing coaching staff in each of the initial matches of Group C. Henken’s hard work in the defense was recognized by PDA Academy (New Jersey), Kendall SC (Florida), and the Boston Bulldogs.
Northern Virginia midfielder Nusraty also garnered a nomination from the Boston Bulldogs in Group D of the U17 bracket, as well as the South Jersey Barons and the Toronto Lynx.
Northern Virginia Football Club, comprised of the Northern Virginia Royals (male), Northern Virginia Majestics (female), and NOVA FC (male and female) USL teams, was represented by the a club record of nine teams in the 2009 North American Finals as well as thirty-three players in the 2009/2010 SYL ODP Camp pool. Northern Virginia earned a prestigious number one ranking in the Super Y-League for the 2009 season.
The USL North American Finals was held in Tampa, Florida, from November 20th through November 24th. A total of sixteen teams clashed at every age level in the boys Super Y-League’s U13-U17 divisions. On the girl’s side, twelve teams met from each of the five age divisions. The 2009 version of the Super Y-League finals was the greatest representative of elite youth talent in North America now that the league encompasses nine regions across the United States and Canada.
