Schweitzer Named National Coaching Finalist
Northern Virginia Super Y-League Director on PCA Double Goal Award List
The Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) announced the 50 finalists for the 2013 Double-Goal Coach Award Presented by Liberty Mutual for outstanding service as a leader in youth athletics. Northern Virginia Super Y-League girl’s director and coach Marie Schweitzer was honored with inclusion on the elite national list.
The PCA Double-Goal Coach Award is given annually to the top coaches in the United States that embody the model of striving to win while also pursuing the more important goal of teaching life lessons through sports to develop “Better Athletes, Better People.” The award spans coaches from all youth sports and is the result of nominations and recommendations within each field.
The 50 person finalist list will be trimmed to the 20 selected award winners on March 19th.
Schweitzer has served as the girls Super Y-League director for both the Northern Virginia Majestics and Virginia Alliance since the youth program inception in 2001. Additionally, Schweitzer is working with administering the Washington Spirit youth academy and Super Y-League programs as well. Schweitzer also coaches both the U17 and U12 girl’s age group teams in the Northern Virginia Soccer Club.
Also included on the PCA finalist list are Wendell Bassett and Andrew Cheng of Gunston Soccer Club and Matt Lawrey of Prince William Soccer Incorporated.
