Northern Virginia FC Named Best SYL Club in North America
Royals and Majestics Top Youth Soccer Rankings
Taken from USLSoccer.com

United Soccer Leagues (USL) announced today the Super Y-League (SYL) First and Second-11 Club rankings for the 2009 regular season, recognizing the league’s top clubs on a competitive and administrative basis. Northern Virginia FC, comprised of the Royals (boys) and Majestics (girls) youth soccer teams, garnered the prestigious number one spot, finishing as the top Super Y-league club in North America.

The top overall club in the SYL this season, the Northern Virginia Majestics/Royals scored an 81.80 to edge out the second-best club in the league, the MPS Bulldogs/Renegades (Massachusetts), by less than a tenth of a percent.

The Northern Virginia Royals were an impressive 41-3-14 during the SYL Regular season. They finished fourth in the boys rankings with a score of 78.11. Their U14, U15 and U17 boys went undefeated, while their U13, U16 and Super-20 League teams each had just a single loss. All five of the club’s SYL teams will be present at the SYL North American Finals.

Northern Virginia’s girls, the Majestics were 36-10-4 this season, finishing fourth in the girls rankings with a score of 79.27. The Majestic’s U13, U14 and U16 girls will all compete for a North American Championship in Tampa.

Majestics Named to Girls U13 All-Tournament Team
Northern Virginia’s Chapman and Kestel Earn SYL Honors
Taken from USLSoccer.com

United Soccer Leagues announced today the Super Y-League All-Tournament Team Selections for the U13 Girls North American Finals, which were held Friday, November 20 through Tuesday, November 24 at Ed Radice Soccer Complex in Northwest Tampa, Florida. Majestics Maggie Chapman and Jordan Kestel earned recognition on the elite list for their performance over the five-day tournament.

The Northern Virginia Majestics championed the U13 Girls Division with a 3-1 win over Rage SC in the final.

A deep squad, the Majestics got eight goals and two assists from Annah Lindberg and Jewel Christian. But it was Chapman, who handed out six assists during the tournament that caught the eye of the scouts. She earned a vote in each match she played, with the exception of the semifinal. In that match, Lindberg stood out by netting a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win over Coastal WFC. The second Majestic’s player voted to the All-Tournament Team was defender Jordan Kestel, who earned a vote in both the semifinal and championship matches.

U13 Majestics Claim North American Title
Northern Virginia Downs Rage SC, Lindberg Named Tournament MVP
The U13 Northern Virginia Majestics surged past Rage SC 3-1 to lay claim to the Super Y-League (SYL) North American Championship title yesterday at Ed Radice Soccer Complex in Tampa, Florida.  An early strike by Majestic Jewel Christian and a pair of goals from teammate Annah Lindberg proved enough to triumph over the Rage (Pennsylvania) in the hard-fought final match. Lindberg was named SYL Tournament MVP for her efforts throughout the four-day tournament featuring the top SYL clubs in the United States and Canada.

The North American tournament title capped a perfect 17-0-0 season for Northern Virginia in the squad’s first SYL season.

The U13 victory marks the third SYL North American Championship title brought home by the Majestics. Northern Virginia previously won the U18 SYL National Championship in 2001 and U19 SYL Continental Championship in 2005.

Northern Virginia Sends Nine Teams to North American Finals
Royals, Majestics, NOVA FC Teams Head to Super Y-League Championships
In unprecedented fashion, the Northern Virginia Football Club earned five bids to the North American Finals from results on the last day of their Super Y-League regular season. With two teams previously qualified and two late wild card additions, Northern Virginia FC has set a new club record with nine teams bound for the United Soccer Leagues youth championship tournament later this fall.

The U14 Royals (7-0-3) swept their last five matches of the season to win the Group B title in the South Atlantic Division and gain entry into continental finals. The U14 Royals netted fifteen goals while only allowing three in their late season run. A 2-0 result over local rival Fredericksburg Gunners clinched the regular season group title and their spot at the championships.

On the girl’s side, the U14 Majestics faced a late season, uphill battle with their talented Richmond Kicker counterparts. The Kickers avenged an earlier 2-1 loss to the Majestics, winning 2-1 on a goal in the waning moments of the match. With record and head-to-head result dead even, the Majestics and Kickers found themselves both unable to cede a single point and locked in a race for goal differential with their remaining schedules. With Richmond ahead by eight goal differential points, the young Majestics managed to narrowly edge the Kickers goal totals in the final two games to earn the championship berth.

Northern Virginia U13s Earn Championship Bids
NOVA FC Boys and Majestics Qualify, Royals Close In
With three weeks remaining in the 2009 Super Y-League South Atlantic regular season, Northern Virginia has asserted its dominance within the division at the U13 level.  The U13 NOVA FC Boys and U13 Majestics teams both claimed automatic berths into the United Soccer Leagues Youth North American Finals following results against the Richmond Kickers on Friday.  The U13 Royals also remain in tight contention for the last remaining South Atlantic spot in the championship tournament, as they currently hold second place in the division.

On the girl’s side of the brackets, the South Atlantic division promised tough competition, as only the first place team would earn the single assigned berth into the North American Finals. With only one of seven teams qualifying for the championships, the U13 Majestics have rocketed to a season record of 10-0-0 so far to lock down their division, scoring 31 goals while not allowing any against them.   The Florida-bound Majestics cruised by Richmond 3-0 Friday, mathematically eliminating the other six South Atlantic teams in contention for the divisional title.

The U13 NOVA FC Boys (8-1-0) hold the divisional lead by three points with three games remaining, assuring them one of two South Atlantic divisional berths to the championships. If the upstart NOVA Boys were to not to earn another point over the next two weeks of their season, the only team that could overtake them would be the U13 Royals. NOVA FC solidified their bid in the finals with three wins in three days on a lengthy road trip to Georgia. The U13 NOVA Boys defeated the Atlanta Silverbacks, Alpharetta United, and the Atlanta Fire, scoring 17 goals while allowing only 2 over the weekend.
