The Northern Virginia Majestics announced today the signing of five James Madison University players to the 2008 side. Cate Tisinger, Caitlin Walko and Teri Maykoski join returning Majestic veterans Lindsay Bowers and All-American Kimmy Germain on this summer’s roster.
Germain enters into her third year with the Majestics, returning to an increasingly solid Northern Virginia midfield. Germain is also a three-year starter in the JMU midfield and completed her junior year tied seventh on Dukes career assist leader board with 18. Her crowning achievement last season was being named to the NCSAA All-American third team.
The Majestics led the W-League in 2007 All-Americans with four Northern Virginia players earning selection to the prestigious list.
Bowers rejoins the Majestics for another season after playing both forward and midfield for James Madison the previous collegiate season. The Burke, VA. native earned All-State and All-Regional honors while still in high school, and starred on the BRYC Aurora club team that finished National Champion runners-up twice with Bowers.
Tisinger (Clifton, VA.) brings yet another attacking threat to a dangerous Northern Virginia offense. The freshman forward led the Dukes in points (28) and was second in goals (9) and assists (10). She ranked second in the Colonial Athletic Association in assists, third in points and sixth in goals. Tisinger was the 2007 CAA Rookie of the Year.
Walko (Vienna, VA.) is expected to readily become a fixture in the Majestic’s defensive third this summer. The NCSAA All-Region third team and SoccerBuzz All-Region second team back was a key element on a Dukes’ defense that posted nine shutouts and limited its opponents to 0.90 goals per game.
Another addition to the Northern Virginia defense, Maykoski (Fairfax, VA.) was sidelined in 2007 after a September 7th injury against Wyoming after being named to the All-CAA preseason team. The now healthy defender will join Duke teammate Walko for the Majestics 2008 season. In her sophomore season for JMU, Maykoski earned All-CAA and All-State second team honors.
The Northern Virginia Majestics face a challenging schedule of opponents in the Northeast Division in the upcoming season, including previous W-League Champions Washington Freedom and New Jersey Wildcats. The Majestics open the season on the road against historical powerhouse Boston Renegades on May 17th. The Majestics will kick off their home season Saturday, June 7th against the expansion Connecticut Passion.
