
The Northern Virginia Majestics announced today the signing of Kelly Hammond to the 2008 roster. A former ACC standout at the University of Virginia, Hammond is expected to bolster the Majestic offense for the upcoming season.
Hammond graduated from Virginia in 2005 following a prolific collegiate career with the Cavaliers. The Bowie, Maryland native amassed several conference honors and accolades to include ACC All-Tournament Team (2004), SoccerBuzz/Soccer Times All-American (2003), First Team All-ACC (2003), and MAC/Hermann Award Preseason Watch List (2004). As a freshman, Hammond was a member of the ACC All-Freshman Team and a Finalist for the SoccerBuzz National Freshman of the Year.
A NSCAA and Parade All American at St. Mary’s High School in Annapolis, Md., Hammond also led the Bethesda Fury club team to the USYSA U17 National Championship in 2001. Hammond was also a member of the US Under-21 National Team player pool and a member of the Under-17 National Team in 2000.
No stranger to the W-League, Hammond has previously played for both the New Jersey Wildcats and Washington Freedom.
The Northern Virginia Majestics face a challenging schedule of opponents in the Northeast Division in the upcoming season, including previous W-League Champions Washington Freedom and New Jersey Wildcats. The Majestics open the season on the road against historical powerhouse Boston Renegades on May 17th. The Majestics will kick off their home season Saturday, June 7th against the expansion Connecticut FC.
