United Soccer Leagues took time out from its 2011 AGM last Friday night to honor its outstanding teams and individuals at the USL Hall of Fame and Awards Dinner at the Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach Resort & Spa. Following the evening’s induction ceremony into the USL Hall of Fame for his long service to the women’s game, Tim Schweitzer was named the 2012 W-League Executive of the Year.
Schweitzer was cited for his efforts on behalf of both the Northern Virginia Majestics and his leadership duties in the inaugural season of D.C. United Women.
In addition to his thirteenth season at the helm of the Majestics program, Schweitzer was part of an ownership group that acquired the Washington Freedom minor league soccer operating rights late last year and formed the partnership with D.C. United in the MLS. His experience and skill were pivotal in helping United Women off the ground, as he and Team Administrator Remy DuCote managed many of the day-to-day affairs for two W-League teams playing in two different states.
The evening opened with speeches from USL CEO Alec Papadakis, Umbro USA’s Jerry Alleco and USL President Tim Holt. It continued with a 2011 season highlights video presentation, followed by the induction of the nine new members into the USL Hall of Fame.
For the remainder of the evening, the USL also honored its clubs and teams for their success on and off the field, honoring the Super Y-League and Super-20 League First 11 and rewarding excellence in USL PRO, the W-League and the PDL.
